why $1 cans really aren't worth buying...

Postby ATMOSTFEAR/MOKA_ONE on Fri Sep 21, 2007 12:28 pm

for those of you who are starting out, or for those of you who are convinced that using the $1 generic spray paint cans is the way to go, keep this in mind:

:!: almost all generic brands of spray paint priced at $1 only have 1/3 of the square footage coverage for the "regular cans" priced closer to $3.

sure it may be slightly cheaper, but you'll end up buying more cans to get the same coverage results from a normal can of rusto or krylon. not to mention you might have to go over the same area multiple times to get the color to look uniform. whether you're just practicing or going out bombing, why carry cans that you'll have to use more of, that will end up empty and rattling around in your bag?

i know there's probably someone bound and determined to argue with me on this, and i know there are SOME EXCEPTIONS. what i'm going off of is personal experience and information from the companies themselves. if you want, put it to the test with various paints. do some research yourself and you might get lucky and find a $1 can that is somewhat worthwhile. great job. on occasion it can be good.

oh yea, and another thing for people starting out. get comfortable with a can of rusto or krylon and when/if you start using great paint like montana and belton you're pieces will look really great. resist the temptation to think that you'll go from a toy to a master from just using expensive paint. you'll just look like a toy who is using nice paint.

many props to AP.
hope that this helps. peace.

Absolutely right, $1 cans are rubbish.

However, I would say get used to ANY can. If you really bomb then you're gonna go on a grand tour of every can that exists, so may as well know $1 cans too. Who knows when someone is gonna hand you one.

in bombing...
It doesn't matter how expensive the paint is. As long as it covers then it's just as good as the next.

man, graffiti hated you that day,
no wonder they call you OUCH!

I can feel what you are saying, you definitely get what you pay/rack for.
But if you are bombing, your going for ups.
Its quantity, not quality.

well im not abouts to use belton when im out bombing cuz that was money well spent but ill occasionally use the bombers best cuz that sh*t is sex otherwise krylon, rusto and other cheap brands are just for bombin since if its cheap if you buy or you can just rack this sh*t so its basically free paint

the only time i use belton is if i have a color ill never use

that would be kind of sad. I mean its nice to paint with brands like that, but I presonally like to put any kind of paint to good use.

i paint manily with krylon but i have recently fallin in love with rusto. in a perfect world i would have like 400 cans of MTN cuzz its my fav. never f*cked with belton so i cant say. i try not to f*ck with doller cans cuzz they are just crappy. poor coverage, poor pressure, and you dont get the same effects with your caps.

If I'm painting with Wal-Mart cans, I don't even bother taking the stock tips off. There's just something fun about how grimey a stock tip piece with dollar cans looks. Brings back memories of the old 97cents crew in the North Bay Area.

theres a store by my house where you can get "sh*t paint" for MORE THAN MY ALOWANCE ,and its hella easy to rack

there arent many stores that sell that paint in seattle bragmaster oner. I dont care how sh*tty the paint is. you are not badass for bragging. you just sound like a little kid. btw I know where you are talking about and you just blew your spot.
Im not impressed. dont do it again.
